Chris's First Growing Post

3. Which is larger 1/2 + 1/6 or 1/4 + 7/12?

- You know 1/2 of 60 is 30 (60 divided by 2)

then 1/6 is 60 divided by 6 which equals 10

They are both unit fraction so you are able to divide them by by 6 and 2. 40+10=50 minutes

- 1/4+ 7/12, 1/4 you get by halving 1 half its a quarter or 60 divided by 4 equals 15 1/4= 15min for 7/12 60 divided by 12 equals 5, there are 7 5's so 7 times 5= 35 or from the earlier question 1/6 is 10 minutes now that the denominator doubles the times halves so then 10 divided by 2= 5 5 times 7 = 35

Chris and Jurrell's Bike Race

For our Bike Race we put markers with initialise for each km needed ex we got them every 5th, 12th, 10th, 3rd, 4th, 6th.

Each Km equaled after one square and so on.

This site shows where to add fractions and multiply, divide and subtract. It is really easy to understand with the pictures too. They simplify the questions really good to understand so if u have trouble with fractions this site should show u a thing or two.

7) Find 1/12 , 1/6, or 1/3 of the 60 km bike race

When i saw this question i noticed that 3 goes into 12 and 6. So since 1/12 is the smallest fraction i divided it into 60 and got 5. So i put a marker every 5 km and noticed that i didn't have to do work for one 3rd and 6th.

8) 2 different ways to find 1/4 and 3/4 of a 16

1 way of getting a 1/4 of 16 would be to divide 16 into 4 and you would get 4 another way to get 1/4 of 16th is to half the 16 then half it again. making u get a quarter. For 3/4 16 divided by 4 is 4 do then times that by 3 u get 12. Another way is to half 16 then half it again and take 3 pieces of the 4.

9) 8/24 or 2/9 which is larger?

The way i do it is i found that 8 goes into 24 3 times and that 2 goes into 9 4 and 1 remainder

So from that u know 8/24 is larger. Another way is to simplify 8/24 to 1/3 because 8 goes into 24 3 times.
