April's 2nd Growing Post

1.What strategies were needed?
The strategies that were needed is a ratio table, and you can multiply and divide it.

2.How did you use your strategy?
I first multiplied the first answer and then for the 3 question I divided and then I times it at the end to get my full answer to my ratio table.

3. Or How could of used these strategies.
I could of used the strategies to figure how I got my answers and why I used those strategies to figure out my answers.

4. How would you figure out the price of a 6 cup bag of Betty's snack Mix? Use a ratio table.
I would multiply and divide my answers.

5. Find 3 other values ( amounts of snack mix) that could be solved using the same ratio table. Find the $$ of your new container sizes.

1. What strategies were needed?2. How did you use these strategies?3. Or How could you of used these strategies?4. How would you figure out the price of a 6 cup bag of Betty's Snack mix? Use a ratio table.5. Find 3 other values (amounts of Snack Mix) that could be solved using the same ratio table. Find the $$ of your new container sizes.

1.The strategies needed were T-charts, multiplication,and division.

2. I did it differently on my test. Now I learned the easy way to do it. Instead of going through all of the trouble. I used a T-chart which is much easier then what I did on my math test.

3. I could have used a T-chart on my test. I tought it would be good to try out a T-chart on this growing post. T-chart is on the top black and white one.

4. For the new snack mix I put 2 2/5, 12, 3 ,6 ,1 and 4 on the snack mix side. Then $6, $1.50, $9, $4.50, $3.60, and $18 on the money side. Then I just multiplied them and divided them to get the new price. Then the charts on the top. It's the colourful one.

4. To figure out the price of a 6 cup bag you take you answer from 12 cups and divide by 2.

5. This is how i figured out 3 different size cups (i used 12 as a starting point)
You are going to create a voicethread explaining the strategies you used on your test. You need to choose 4 out of the 6 questions.
1. 2/3 + 1/4 + 2/5 =
2. 6/5 - 11/10=
3. 3/5 + 2/7 =
4. 1/6/+1/9 =
5. 5/6 - 1/4 =
6. 3 3/5 - 1 4/5 =

3.) Here is your 3rd growing post question.

Today in class we reviewed the 6 strategies from the RACE Investigation. They were

  • Equivalence

  • Fractions show operations

  • Ratio Tables (Proportional Reasoning)

  • Measurement

  • Partial Products or the Distributive Property

  • The Whole Matters

  • Friendly Fractions
Create a voice thread or write and use pictures to describe how you would uses those strategies to explain how far the two students would have run if Mark ran 7/8 and Rachel ran 11/12 of the RACE course.
4. Your last question deals with pizza. You need to explain which group gets the largest portion of pizza. All student groups get the same sized pizzas. It is up to you to cut them up so that they are shared equally.

  1. Group 1 Sally Bob, Gidget and Biff Share 3 pizzas.
  2. Group 2 Stan, Holly, Barry, Ben and Ichkabibble share 4 pizzas.
  3. Group 3 Eric, Susy,James, Betty, Veronica and Moose share 5 pizzas.
  4. Group 4 Paul, Alex, Chris, Jughead, Archie, Reggie, Mr. Wotherspoon and Midge share 7 pizzas.
  • How much pizza does each student get in the different groups?
  • Which group gets the largest portion of pizza?
  • Show how you found your answer in 2 different ways.
  • What strategies did you use in finding your answer.
  • Show your answer is 2 different ways. I would recommend that you create a voicethread of your work.
Each Person Gets 3/4 of a pizza

Each person get 4/5 of a pizza

Each Person Gets 5/6 of a pizza

Each Person gets 7/8 of a pizza

My strategies were using the slice method and using a ratio table

Group 1 gets the largest piece because the denominator is smaller so that means the larger the pieces.

Question 1

1. What strategies were needed?
2. How did you use these strategies?
3. Or How could you of used these strategies.
4. How would you figure out the price of a 6 cup bag of Betty's Snack mix? Use a ratio table
5. Find 3 other values (amounts of Snack Mix) that could be solved using the same ratio table.
6. Find the $$ of your new container sizes.

1. The strategies that were needed were a ratio tables, and division and multiplacation.

2. First you put on the ratio table money on one side then on the other cups. Then I used the ratio table to find the size of cups of snack mix and the how much money the snack mixes cost. Then divide the answer for 1/2 cup of snack mix, and multiply the answers for 12 cups of snack mix.

3. Another way of using these strategies is to multiply the 2 2/5 until you get to 12. Then multiply the money by how much you multiplied to get 12. Then to get 1/2 divide the money and the 12 cups by 24.

4. To get 6 cups, you can get 12 cups first. Then divide everything in two both the money and all the parts of the cups. It looks like this

5 and 6. The numbers I chose were 1, 25 , and 100.
To get 1, I knew that 1/2 was 75 cents and all you needed is to multiply it to get the amount. Which cost $1.50, so 1 cup = $1.50.
Then to get 25 I knew that 1 was $1.50 and I just multiplied it by 25. Which cost $37.50, so for 25 cups it = $37.50.
Then to get 100 cups. I knew that 25 x 4 is 100. So I just multiplied $37.50 by 4. Which then = $150. So for a 100 cups = $150

Josephine's Scribe

R.A.C.E Marathon

Questions:

1. How did Mark know that the fourth water station was the halfway point?
2. Did both Mark and Rachel run farther this year than they ran last year?
3. How many miles did each of them run this year?
4. How can you assure the community that your conclusions are correct?

I am going to talk about how Israelie (my partner) and I got the answers for the R.A.C.E Marathon.

1. How did Mark know that the fourth water station was the halfway point?

My Answer: Mark knew that the 4th water station was the halfway point because... There were 8 water stations in total so half of 8 is 4.

We used a number line to help us with this question. Since Mark knows that there were 8 water stations in total throughout the race, you can divide 8 by 2 and it would equal 4.

2. Did both Mark and Rachel run farther this year than they ran last year?

My answer: Yes, they both ran farther this year than they did last year. Rachel ran 1/12 more than she did last year. Mark ran 1/8 more than he did last year.

We used a double number line for this question. I used a double number line for this question because I thought it would be easier for me to answer the question. On the number line I showed how much Mark and Rachel ran the year before, and this year.

3. How many miles did each of them run this year?

My answer:
Rachel - 7/12 = 15.12
Mark: - 5/8 = 16.25
Rachel ran 15.12 miles this year and Mark ran 16.25 miles this year.

We used a ratio table to find out the answer of this question. Our strategy was to find out how many miles the unit fractions(1/8 & 1/12) were then multiply it by how many 12th's and 8th's there were.

4. How can you assure the community that your conclusions are correct?

My Answer: I can prove that my answers were correct because I drew a picture of how much Mark and Rachel ran last year and, how much they ran this year.

I used pictures to prove my answer. First I drew How much Mark and Rachel ran last year then I drew another picture which shows how much they ran this year. And as you can see in the second drawing in both rectangles there is one more piece than in the rectangles in the first drawing.

4. How would you figure out the price of a 6 cup bag of Betty's Snack mix? Use a ratio table .
5. Find 3 other values (amounts of Snack Mix) that could be solved using the same ratio table. Find the $$ of your new container sizes.

Answers

1. The strategies that were needed were division and ratio tables

2. I used the ratiotable using the size of the cup and the price and then i multiplyed it by 5 to get my answer . For the 1/2 cup i took the 12 cup and divide the price and the recipie untill i got the answer i wanted.
3. I'm unsure of annother way i could use these strategies . :)
4. I could use a ratio table...

The price would be ( dollars and the bad is 6 cups. I devide by 2.

( Green )

3 cups of snack mix I would take the 6 pound and then divide the price and the bag by 2.then i would get the price that is 4.50 and the size of the bag wich is 6.

( Purple )

For 18 i would take the 6 cup recipie for the snack mix and then i would multiply it by 3 to get 18 and then theprice would be 13.50 for the 18 cup bag of snack mix.

( Yelllow )

If i was to figure out how much i needed for 2 cups i would take the 12 cup recipie and then i would divide it by 2 to get 6 and then by 3 to get 2 and then for the price i w0uld divide it by 2 to get 3 dollars .Another way is to just go to 6 cups and divide it by 2.

Alicia's 2nd Growing Post

1. What strategies were needed?
the strategy i used was to draw a picture of the original recipe a few times until i get 12 cups in total. so i would need 5 of the original recipe to get 12. to get the price, i knew that five of the original recipe would be 12 so since the original recipe ( 2 2/5 cups) was $3.50, i multiplied that by 5 and got $ 18.00. but then for the 1/2 cup, i divide the 12 cup recipe by 12 with is 1 and divided that by 2 with is a half. and then for the price, i took $ 18.00 and divided that by 12 which is $ 1.50 and then divided that by 2 which gives me $0.75. :)

2. How did you use these strategies?
(3. Or How could you of used these strategies. )
i drew out all the recipes until i got the right number of cups i needed.

4. How would you figure out the price of a 6 cup bag of Betty's 5. Snack mix? Use a ratio table .

1.What strategies were needed?

2.How did you use these strategies?

3.Or How could you of used these strategies.

4.How would you figure out the price of a 6 cup bag of Betty's Snack mix? Use a ratio table

5.Find 3 other values (amounts of Snack Mix) that could be solved using the same ratio table. Find the $$ of your new container sizes.

1.What strategies were needed?
I think the strategies that were needed were pictures, ratio tables, money, multiplication and division.

2.How did you use these strategies?
I used the strategy ratio table to find out how get 1/2 cup from 12 cups.

3.Or how could you of used these strategies.
I used all the strategies that I thought that were needed to answer these questions already.

4.How would you figure out the price of a 6 cup bag of Betty's Snack mix? Use a ratio table.

Since I knew that 12 cups was double the amount of 6 cups all I had to do was divide 12 cups and how much it was by 2 to get 6 cups and how much it was.

5.Find 3 other values (amounts of Snack Mix) that could be solved using the same ratio table. Find the $$ of your new container sizes.

new containers: 1 cup, 3 cups, 4 cups
To find 1 cup:
I started out with 12 cups and $18.00. Then I divided 12 cups and $18 by 12. And that gave me 1 cup and a $1.50.
To find 3 cups:
I multiplied 1 cup and $1.50 by 3 which equaled 3 cups and $4.50.
To find 4 cups:
I mainly did the same thing to find out 3 cups. I multiplied 1cup and $1.50 by 4 which equaled 4 cups and $6.00.

Question 4

Angelica's scribe

this is what we did today, we used a ratio table as the one above to solve 4 questions. 1/2 of 36 , 1/4 of 36, 1/8 of 36. we used a chopping square method to answer them because 1/4 is half of 1/2 and 1/8 is half of 1/4.

1.) What strategies were needed?
The strategies needed were ratio table (T-chart), division and multiplication.

2.) How did you use these strategies?
(and 3.) Or How could you of used these strategies.)
I used the ratio tables....first, i put the cup on one side and then money on the other side. And then i multiply 2 2/5 cup by 5 it equal to 12 cup.. so i did the same thing in the other side $3.60x5=$18.00.And then i just multiply all the ingredients by 5. For 1/2, i think i divided 12 cups and the ingredients by 24.

4.) How would you figure out the price of a 6 cup bag of Betty's Snack mix? Use a ratio table

First, i multiply 2 2/5 by 5 equal to 12 and then i did the same thing in the other side..so $3.60x5=$18.00. Then i divided 12 by 2 equal to 6 and then i did the same thing in the other side...$18.00 divided by 2=$9.00:))

5.) Find 3 other values (amounts of Snack Mix) that could be solved using the same ratio table. Find the $$ of your new container sizes.

I decided to find the values for 3, 24 and 1 1/2.
To get 3 cups, i just divided 6 by 2= 3..so i did the same thing in the other side $9.00 divided by 2=$4.50.
To get 24 cups, i just multiply 3 cups by 8=24 cups and then i multiply $4.50 by 8=$36.00.
To get 1 1/2 cups,i divided 24 by 16=1.5, then i change 1.5 to a fraction, so its 1 1/2....and then i divided $36.00 by 16=$2.25.

Find the $$ of your new container sizes.

What strategies were needed?
I think the strategies that were need was ratio tables.
How did you use these strategies? Or How could you of used these strategies?
I used a ratio table as my strategies having cups on one side and money in the other. To figure out the answer, whatever you do on one side you do the same to the other. Like if I multilplied in the on the cups side I have to do the same on the other side.
How would you figure out the price of a 6 cup bag of Betty's Snack mix? Use a ratio table.
Since I knew how much 12 cups was, I just divided by 2 and got my answer. Since I did that with my cups I have to do that with the money.
Find 3 other values (amounts of Snack Mix) that could be solved using the same ratio table. Find the $$ of your new container sizes.
The 3 that I used were 3, 1, and 1/3. I just used what I knew and divide by 2 and 3.
