Exequelle's BOB

Surface Area of A Rectangular Prism
The surface area is the area of all the sides added up, how much area the object has.
A net is how an object would look if it was flattened. It would look like this. From a rectangular prism into its net.

Now to answer the question you have to use the formula:
2(W*H)+ 2(H*L) + 2(L*W)= The surface Area.
W= 8cm2
L = 4cm2
H = 1cm2

Basically you just fill in the all of the blanks.

2(W*H)+ 2(H*L) + 2(L*W) =
2(8cm2 x 1cm2) + 2(1cm2 x 4cm2) + 2(4cm2 x 8cm2) =
2(8cm2) + 2(4cm2) + 2 (32cm2) =
16cm2 + 8cm2 + 64cm2 =
Surface Area = 88cm2
Another way is to add up all of the areas of each rectangle in the net:
32cm2 + 32cm2 + 8cm2 + 8 cm2 + 4cm2 + 4cm2 =88cm2

Volume of a Rectangular Prism
Volume is how much space the object takes up.
The formula to find the volume of a rectangular prism is:
(W x L) x H = Volume
W = 8
L = 4
H = 1
Again you plug in the numbers.
(W x L) x H = Volume
(8 x 4) x 1cm =
(32) x 1 =
Volume = 32cm3
Another way to do this is B x H. If you didn't know the base is Width x Length.
Base = 32 Height = 1 32 x 1 = 32cm3

Exequelle's Pythagoras Growing Post

Question 1:

A Pythagorean Triple is three unknown numbers, A, B, and C that satisfy a2+b2=c2 is a pythagorean triple.

This images shows that 3squared + 4squared = 5squared.

3squared = (3x3)= 9
4squared= (4x4)= 16

5squared= (5x5)= 25

So the questions is really 9 + 16 = 25.

Question 3: Problem B
You've just picked up a ground ball at first base, and you see the other teams player towards third base. How far do you have to throw the ball to get it from first base to the third base and throw the runner out?

I just followed the formula, and the distance from 1st to 3rd is the hypotenuse. So you just have to go A + B = C. So all you have to do is square the numbers then add them, then find the square root of that number. Then that would be how far you would have to throw it in feet.
This is the work I did:
A2 = 90(2)
B2 = 90(2)
C = ?
90(2) = 8100
A2 = 8100
B2 = 8100
8100 + 8100 = C
8100 + 8100 = 16200
SquareRoot of 16200 = C2
C2 = 127.28

So the answer to the question is: To throw the ball from 1st base to 3rd base is 127.28 feet. So you have to throw the ball that far to get the runner out.

Question 4: Make Your Own Question

Fred and his buddy Shrek are going shopping at Extremo Shopping Centre of Doom. Shrek goes all the way to the top of an escalator, that is 4 meters high.The base of the escalator is 2 meters long. Fred is standing 55 cm, away from the escalator. How far is Fred standing from Shrek? (Round to two decimals.)

Exequelle's 2nd Growing Post

Question 1

1. What strategies were needed?
2. How did you use these strategies?
3. Or How could you of used these strategies.
4. How would you figure out the price of a 6 cup bag of Betty's Snack mix? Use a ratio table
5. Find 3 other values (amounts of Snack Mix) that could be solved using the same ratio table.
6. Find the $$ of your new container sizes.

1. The strategies that were needed were a ratio tables, and division and multiplacation.

2. First you put on the ratio table money on one side then on the other cups. Then I used the ratio table to find the size of cups of snack mix and the how much money the snack mixes cost. Then divide the answer for 1/2 cup of snack mix, and multiply the answers for 12 cups of snack mix.

3. Another way of using these strategies is to multiply the 2 2/5 until you get to 12. Then multiply the money by how much you multiplied to get 12. Then to get 1/2 divide the money and the 12 cups by 24.

4. To get 6 cups, you can get 12 cups first. Then divide everything in two both the money and all the parts of the cups. It looks like this

5 and 6. The numbers I chose were 1, 25 , and 100.
To get 1, I knew that 1/2 was 75 cents and all you needed is to multiply it to get the amount. Which cost $1.50, so 1 cup = $1.50.
Then to get 25 I knew that 1 was $1.50 and I just multiplied it by 25. Which cost $37.50, so for 25 cups it = $37.50.
Then to get 100 cups. I knew that 25 x 4 is 100. So I just multiplied $37.50 by 4. Which then = $150. So for a 100 cups = $150
