Kevin's Test Scribe

January 24, 2008.

Today in class we had a test on fractions.
It was a mixed test with adding, subtracting,
and multiplying. There was 4 questions and
in this scribe 2 of them our solved.

Now we are going to solve one of the answers together step by step.

7 / 8 x 4 / 5 =

When we multiply fractions we don't have to find a common denominator, all we have to do is multiply the denominators and the numerators.

8 x 5 = 40 ( denominator 40 )
7 x 4 = 28 ( numerator 28 )

Now our fraction is....

28 / 40 , But can we reduce that?

40 and 28 are both divisible by 4.

28 divided by 4 is 7
40 divided by 4 is 10.

OUR FINAL ANSWER IS........

7 / 10
------------------------------------------------------------------
Our next question is.....
2 2 / 3 x 4 1 / 2 =

Since we have a mixed fractions we have to
convert the fraction in to an improper fraction.
2 2 / 3 = 8 / 3
3 x 2 + 2 = 8

Now our new fractions are 8 / 3 x 9 / 2 =
4 1 / 2 = 9 / 2
2 x 4 = 1 = 9

The next step is multiply the numerators and the denominators.

8 x 9 = 72 3 x 2 = 6

72 / 6

The next part is to convert the
improper fraction into a mixed
fraction.

Since our denominator goes into the numerator evenly we are left with a whole number, witch is our answer.

OUR FINAL ANSWER IS.......
12
--------------------------------------------------------------
