Question 1 : 4/5 + 9/15

To solve this question you could use common denominators. You change 4/5 into 12/15. By multiplying the top and the bottom by 3. Then you add 12/15 + 9/15 which would = 21/15. Which would = 1 6/15. Then you have to simplify it and change it to 1 2/5.

You could also solve this problem by using clocks. 4/5 = 48/60 minutes and 9/15 = 36/60 minutes. Which = 84/60 or 1 hour and 24 minutes.

Question 2: 4 3/8 - 1 1/2

To solve this question you could also use common denominators. You can change 1 1/2 into 1 4/8. Then minus that from 4 3/8 to get 2 7/8. Then you can't simplfy it anymore you just leave it.

You could also use a number line. You make it out of 5. Then mark where

4 3/8 is. Then minus 1 4/8 from it. Then you get 2 7/8.
