Josephine's Pythagoras Growing Post

What is a Pythagorean Thereom??

A pythogorean thereom is three unknown numbers: a , b and c. And they obey the following relationship a² + b² = c². A & B are both legs and C is the hypotenuse.

Formula: a² + b² = c²

Example/Diagram:
a = 8 b = 6 c = 10
8² + 6² = 10²
64 + 36 = 100

Explanation:
8²+ 6² = 10² because as you can see in the box/square of 10² there is a shaded part of the square and it equals 6squared (shaded in yellow, 36 squares) so the remainder which is the white part equals 8² (white part of square, 64 squares) and if you add them together they pretty much make up 100 squares which is also 10². (the squares that make up 6² and 8² can also make up 10² if they are added together)

Lefrog:

Lefrog stands 1.5 meters from a wall where a fly is 2 meters up. if Lefrog's tongue comes out of his mouth 70 cm from the ground, how far does his tongue have to stretch to eat the fly ?

answer: Lefrog's tongue has to stretch 1.98m to eat the fly.
explanation: First we had to find out what our formula was going to be. For this question it would be a²+b²=c². Then we had to gather the information that was given to find out the lengths of a² and b² . a² was the length of how high the fly was up the wall (2m-0.70=1.3m), and b² was how far Lefrog stood from the wall(1.5). So since we already knew that information all we had to do was the calculations to find out what c² was. To do that all we had to do was add a² and b² together then find the square root of it, and then that gives you the answer to this question which was 1.98m.

Word Problem:

Chococat wants a chocolate cookie for dessert. So if he is standing 6m from the table and the cookie is on the table which is 8m high. How high does Chococat have to reach to get the cookie?
