Kevin's Scribe

Today we were working with our groups to find diffrent surface areas with shapes such as squares, rectangles, and triangles of diffrent shapes. What we are going to do next is we are going to look at 3 of the shapes we did in class.
We traced all of the shapes out on grid paper and glued it into our note books....
*Make sure to lable all the sides

The first one I did was finding the surface are of a rectangle.I started by making a net of the shape. Each of the cubes are one centimeter all around so it was easy to find the lenght of each side. Once you have determined the side lenghts all you have to do is add them up to get the size of the box.
After you have the sizes of all the boxes you make a formula to find the surface are.
Formula For surface area....

SA = 16(2)+8(4) =
32 + 32 = 64 cm2

----------------------------------------------
*Make sure you lable all the sides

There are 2 in this next set.
This explination is for the larger one ......You start by making the net. Then the next step is to add up all of the sides and determine a the size of each square or rectangle. Now we can make a formula for finding the surface area.
Formula............

SA = 2(4)+2(8)+2(32) =
8 + 16 +1024 =
SA= 1048 cm 2
This set of instructions are for the smaller picture.....
Draw the net on your grid paper and find the side lenghts and the size of the squares. Once you have all of the sizes you can start to figure out your formula.Formula.........

SA = 4(8) + 2(4) =
32 + 8 = 40 cm2
SA = 40 cm2
Make sure you have all of the notes and nets and everything you need to get 12 free markes. To get the rest of the shapes go and see Israelie's scribe.
