Some Fosnot Homework

Today in class we had an excellent Math Congress. All of you agreed that 10/12 was larger than 7/10. How can you prove this to me using words, numbers and pictures?

We also discussed fractions as division.

In this number string what patterns do you see happening?

How can we use the patterns you recognize in this picture to help us determine whether 10/12 is larger than 5/6?

Welcome to your 3 questions that need to be answered. Once again they are...

1.in words it is 10/12 is larger because in decimal form, 10/12 is 0.83 and 7/10 is 0.7. in numbers 10/12=0.83 7/10=0.7 0.83 in pictures you make two rectangles the same size. then, you cut one rectangle into twelve pieces and color ten of them. you cut the other rectangle into ten pieces and color seven of them.

2the patterns i see happening are that the numerator is always one less than the denominator and that the decimal is alawys getting bigger

3. we can't because 10/12 is the exact same as 5/6
