A pythagorean triple is three numbers that are all perfect squares. Like 3 squared + 4 squared equals 5 squared. So, then it is 9 + 16 = 25. Another pythagorean triple from the perfect square chart is 6,8,10.

What's the Pythagorean triple?
For those of you who are familiar with the Pythagorean theorem, you might have came across this during your investigations.
But for those of you who aren't, a Pythagorean triple is a set of 3 numbers. In that set of numbers, when all of them are squared, adding the two lowest numbers will equal the remaining number.
*Note: after squaring, the resulting numbers must all be whole number.*

For Example, 3, 4, 5 is a Pythagorean triple.


To figure out if this set is one of the Pythagorean triple, we need to find out if the two lowest numbers squared will equal the highest number squared.

first, the formula, then we apply the measurements, then we squared the numbers that required squaring. then add a and b together.
a2 + b2 = c2
32 + 42 = 52
9 + 16 = 25
25 = 25

if the answers below equal each other, the set is one of the Pythagorean triple.

There are other sets of Pythagorean triple too.
Some of them are 6, 8, 10 and 12, 16, 20. Try them out!

Its basically similar to how to find the missing hypotenuse, but instead of the formula: a2 + b2 = c2. The formula used is either c2 - a2 = b2 or c2 - b2 = a2.
pretend these are the givens:
c= 5
b= 4
a= ?

because were trying to find the missing leg a, we use the formula c2 - b2 = a2.

c2 - b2 = a2
52 - 42 = a2
25 - 16 = a2
9 = a2
3 = a

Word Problem: Baseball

Question: You've just picked up a ground ball at fisrt base, and you see the other teams player towards third base. How far do you have to throw the ball to get it from base to the third base and throw the runner out?

All i did was I followed the formula, A2 + B2 = C2, and the distance from 1st base to 3 base is the hypotenuse on the field. So what you have to do is square the numbers then them altogether, and finally square the answer of all the added numbers. The number that you get from squaring the sum of all the number is how much you have to throw the ball in order to get the other team out.

THE WAY I GOT IT:

a = 90squared

b = 90 squared

C = ???

90squared = 8,100

a2 = 8,100

b2 = 8,100

8,100 + 8,100 = c2

8,100 +8,100 = 16,200

Squareroot of 16,200 = c2

c = 127.28

Now in order to get the runner out you have to throw the ball 127.28 ft. (DISTANCE FROM 1ST BASE TO 3RD BASE IS 127.28)

A, B, and C are the numbers that are used for the pythagorean triple. A pythagorean triple is when you have a right angle triangle and it's formula is a²+b²=c². The C is always the hypotenuse. A and B can be either leg except not on the hypotenuse leg. The hypotenuse is the side where the right angle is pointing to the leg.

In this picture shown on the left. I drew 3 squares that are all joined together making a triangle in the middle of them.

In the 3 squares there are 3 numbers. Each square has a number in it.

a=6²

b=8²

c=10²

Then after you have all of that you have to times all of the numbers by two, because of their squared. 6²=36, 8²=64, and 10²=100. Those are what all of those numbers are equaled to.

I just followed the formula, and the distance from 1st to 3rd is the hypotenuse. So you just have to go A + B = C. So all you have to do is square the numbers then add them, then find the square root of that number. Then that would be how far you would have to throw it in feet.
This is the work I did:
A2 = 90(2)
B2 = 90(2)
C = ?
90(2) = 8100
A2 = 8100
B2 = 8100
8100 + 8100 = C
8100 + 8100 = 16200
SquareRoot of 16200 = C2
C2 = 127.28

So the answer to the question is: To throw the ball from 1st base to 3rd base is 127.28 feet. So you have to throw the ball that far to get the runner out.
